Insider tip

Cascading at Damajagua Falls, between Puerto Plata and Santiago you will find the Damajagua Falls, a series of 27 cascading waterfalls that takes adventure seekers for a day of climbing up and through them. The thrill of sliding back down the waterfall or jumping off its cliffs is a rewarding and fun finale to the challenge.

The Samaná Peninsula serves as a base for checking out the humpback whales that migrate to the area in the winter and for boat tours to the lush mangrove swamps of Parque Nacional Los Haitises, on the interior of the bay.

The Dominican Republic is the eco-capital of the Caribbean and we feel confident in our product. Here are just a few highlights:

  1. Central Region: Hike to tallest peak in the Caribbean, Pico Duarte at 3,087meters. Temperatures dip below freezing in the winter time.

  2. Southwest: Largest lake in the Caribbean, Lago Enriquillo at 102 sq km. This is a salt water lake 39 meters below sea level with crocodiles and iguanas, all within a semi-arid climate.

  3. North Coast: Damajagua Falls are 27 waterfalls running through the forest. Adventure seekers dive off each fall from beginning to end.

  4. Santo Domingo: All modern history in the western hemisphere can be traced back to the Dominican capital. This was the first permanent European settlement and is rich with history, boasting the first: cathedral, paved street, university, tavern, stone home, etc, of the new world.
