The landscape takes your breath away whilst the Ocean Spa kneads out the last of any stress or tension from reality. The spa uses world-renowned spa products Repêchage, which use the remarkable properties of seaweed to replenish the body and soul. Let the spa manager cleanse away any left-over stress from the outside world and totally relax. Not just for hotel guests the Ocean Spa welcomes those needing to escape for a day of relaxation and rejuvenation. The Discovery Wellbeing health club, a new feature to the spa, is an exclusive membership that allows the local contingency to use fantastic new facilities and share in the spoils of the cook, the carpenter and the cove.

The award winning restaurant and café feed the Soar Mill Cove soul with lots of locally sourced food. There are years of passion behind the scenes, the original Mrs Makepeace, a trained pastry chef, delighted Audrey Hepburn with her pavlova. Having handed over the pastry cutters to son Keith, also a trained chef, the hotel restaurant serves up a seasonal menu focusing on fabulously fresh locally sourced ingredients. Designed by head chef Ian MacDonald the 2 AA Rosette restaurant makes the most of the nearby produce, catch of the day and fabulous foodie finds.

Always serving up sumptuous and warm sustenance, the Makepeace family favourites are Start Bay scallops and, of course, hand-picked Salcombe crab. Other spring favourites include Confit of Gressingham Duckling with Wild Mushrooms and Fillet of Westcountry Beef with Devonshire Blue Cheese Gratin. As for the desserts, though Hepburn’s pavlova is a classic, Ian has more delights up his chef whites, including Hot Chocolate Fondant with Devonshire Clotted Cream and Baked Marmalade Cheesecake with Citrus salad. Perfect for filling up on before retiring to bed and snuggling under Devonshire wool blankets (after a quick night-cap of Western Hunt Ruby Port perhaps) and watching the sea turn dark.
